Amateur or professional builders, from all over Europe (and beyond), are you interested in giving your current custom project an international visibility? Try your luck at The Backyard Project and be one of the 10 selected builders for Wheels and Waves Biarritz 2023.
CALL TO CUSTOM BUILDERS!
As a reminder, the Backyard project is a custom motorcycle custom contest open to all.
All the bases are accepted, with no restriction of style or age, only the project’s global harmony is considered. The sine qua non condition? Your creation must be an original project, for which you will reserve exclusivity to the Wheels and Waves audience.
The 10 selected projects will benefit from a prime location during the 5 days of the festival Wheels and Waves Biarritz and will be submitted to a jury vote. The contest winner will have the opportunity to showcase his or her bike at Artride 2024, like Sébastien Beaupère from Möbius Garage, who won the Backyard Custom Contest 2022 and whose creation will be highlighted at Artride 2023.
Whether your project is in its early stages or already advanced, the time has come to work on it… to be ready for the D-day!
Submit your custom Builder application before 31/03/2023. The motorcycle has to be finished and ready to ride before 26/05/2023.
RULES & POLICY
The Backyard Project is a custom motorbike design contest open to all, amateurs and professionals. This contest is aimed to reveal creativity and know-how of rookies or confirmed talents, without restriction of style. Heat engine or electric, vintage or modern motorbike, bobber, chopper, cafe racer, scrambler or anything else… the only thing that will be evaluated is the enhancement of the mechanics and its harmony with the overall design of the bike. The selected bikes will be new projects, unveiled for the first time to the public and professionals during WW2023.
The selected motorbikes will be exhibited throughout the festival in a dedicated area made offered to their creators at the Cité de l’océan Village.
The awarded project will be exhibited at Artride 2024.
HOW TO TAKE YOUR CHANCE?
10 projects will be selected. Send your application to the following email address:
email@example.com, before 31/03/2023, with a presentation of your universe (workshop, collective, motorbikes and/or other creations already made, sketches, photos, blog, Instagram…) and the philosophy of the project made for WW2023. The motorbike must be “wrapped up” and ready to ride before 26/05/2023.
The selected competitors will be informed by email of their participation.
HOW TO ORGANISE YOUR BOOTH?
To encourage exchanges with visitors, the motorbike must be permanently displayed in the Village. A Wheels and Waves military tent of 10 sqm (5.4m X 2m) will be made offered to each project, to be freely customized, according to the universe of the motorbike showcased and aesthetics of the Village: Only “raw” and “natural” materials (metal, canvas, wood, plants, etc.), no plastics, banners, PVC, etc. Lighting is provided.
GUARANTEE OF EXCLUSIVITY
To keep the visitor’s interest, participants are allowed to share their project’s progress on social and media channels (Facebook, Instagram, newsletter, press…), but the project cannot be physically presented in another event before the first day of WW2023.
BACKYARD PROJECT JURY
A 5 personalities jury representative of the Wheels and Waves universe – guests, journalists, designers, surfers, photographers… – will choose the winner of the Backyard Project 2023. The visit of the jury members will be anonymous during the 3 first days of the event. The winning project will be unveiled on Sunday 25 June on Village main stage.
